Garden 23 in Exposition Park

Over half of this new, 3.5 acre landscape is composed of California natives arranged in plant communities –meadow, oak woodland, riparian woodland, coastal scrub – or thematic gardens such as mixed borders and rock gardens. Created for both educational and research purposes, the Nature Gardens are used as a field site to study urban biodiversity. Beyond the usual coterie of natives, look for rare xeric ferns, Monardella linoides ssp. viminea, Hibiscus lasiocarpus, Juglans californica, Eriophyllum nevinii, and more.
